Our community friends in Malealea have asked us specifically to boost the numbers of children that are receiving secondary school education.

The Lesotho Government is working extremely hard to increase the numbers of children receiving education and this focus is improving the life opportunities for many primary school aged youngsters, but resources do not extend to secondary school provision.

We have an opportunity, working through the formally constituted Malealea Development Trust, to sponsor needy children through a scholarship programme.

When asked how the MDT will determine who is needy the response opened eyes wide – "those pupils who have proven that they have an aptitude for further learning, who's behaviour and attendance have been exemplary, and priority will be given to double orphans in the first instance and then single orphans".

The sum of £113 will put one of these needy children into school for a whole academic year.

We do not yet have charitable status for our link but our partners in Royston have agreed to receive donations from taxpayers upon which they can claim Gift Aid. If you would like to make such a gift you may download a Gift Aid Form and make cheques payable to The Royston and Carlton Community Partnership.

Please download and complete this Gift Aid Form

If £113 is an unrealistic amount, you may wish to consider sponsoring a tree, which will be planted in your name in the Malealea Valley. We are currently growing in a nursery adjacent to Malealea High School fruit trees and forest trees, which when planted will slow down the horrendous soil erosion problem and provide fuel wood for the community.

Should you wish to sponsor a tree please do contact us at school as a fruit tree can be bought and planted for £2 and a forest tree for £1.
